Innsbruck/Int. Golden Roof Challenge - 11 June 2022
“home of the Golden Fly Series”
Magical evening with a world record at the traditional Int. Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck on June 11th!
In front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators, the jumping spectacle in pole vault and long jump on the certified mobile athletics facility "The FlySwat" in Innsbruck's magnificent mile was held for the 18th time on Saturday and was like a progression run at the highest level! Roberta Bruni/ITA provided the first highlight with her victory height of 4.66 m - new meeting record and currently position 8 in the annual world best list!
A top-class long jump duel followed between Agate de Sousa/STP and triple jump vice world champion Marina Bekh-Romanchuk/UKR, which Bekh-Romanchuk with an excellent 6.86 m (currently ranked 6th in the world best list for the year) ahead of de Sousa with 6, 76 m could decide for itself.
Bokai HUANG/CHN won the men's pole vault with 5.70 m ahead of Matt Ludwig/USA with 5.70 m and Carson Cody Waters/USA with 5.60 m. Ludwig achieved a world premiere at the start of the competition by jumping over a "wall" - a material obstacle 5 m high - in the "OBI Challenge"!
The absolute highlight, however, was the duel between two long jump giants:
Simon Ehammer/SUI - who just 2 weeks ago set a fabulous long jump world record of 8.45 m as part of a decathlon, met the Paralympic world record holder and "Blade Jumper" Markus Rehm/GER, who set the world record with a leg prosthesis with 8.62 m lasted - lasted until yesterday! Because at the Golden Roof Challenge, Rehm failed in an incredible sequence of jumps of 8.39 m, 8.49 m and finally 8.66 m in regular wind conditions - a new world record in the Paralympic class T64! Even Simon Ehammmer couldn't keep up despite a very good 8.12 m!
