Innsbruck/Austria - "Golden Roof" - 2nd June 2018
14th Int. Golden Roof Challenge - "home of the Golden Fly Series"

The 14th International Golden Roof Challenge Innsbruck once again saw a great line up on the FlySwat in Innsbruck. Neither the simultaneously staged football international match Austria / Germany nor the uncertain weather conditions could significantly influence the number of visitors to this annual event in the heart of old Innsbruck.

The Golden Roof Challenge 2018 achieved an impressive new media record this year. The final media-ratings counted 883 TV hours, broadcast on 85 TV-channels to 147 countries! Total TV airings: 3.245 (1.839 airings of the 26. min. TV-highlight-show and 1.406 airings of news and short reports).

In the men's long jump, the German Paralymic world record holder Markus Rehm won the prestigious battle with ex-indoor world champion Ignisious Gaisah (with whom he co-shares the meeting record, currently 8.18 m) with an outstanding 8.15m. Second was South African top jumper Zarck Visser with 7.94 m in front of Gaisah of the Netherlands who jumped 7.80 m.

Maryna Beck (UKR) grabbed the women's long jump went with 6.56 m ahead of Quanesha Burks (USA) 6.51 m and Jazmin Sawyers (GBR) with 6.33 m.

The pole vaulters faced challenging conditions with the cool and wet weather and could not, therefore, seriously jeopardize the longed-for meeting record. The women had an extremely exciting contest for the coveted Golden Roof Shingle. Three jumpers marked 4.25m - the victory went to Maryna Kylypko (UKR) ahead of Amalie Svabikova (CZE) and Katie Nageotte (USA).

In the men's event, former indoor world champion Konstantinos Filippidis (GRE) successfully jumped 5.55m before failing when he attempted the meet record of 5.70. Second place went to Stanley Joseph (FRA) with 5.40 m in front of Diogo Ferreia (POR) 5.20 m.
