11th Int. Golden Roof Challenge - "home of the Golden Fly Series"
A brilliant display of athletics took place last May 30, in Innsbruck, during the 11th Int. Golden Roof Challenge, the "kick off" event of the Golden Fly Series! In perfect conditions, athletes broke records and attained personal best performances on the FlySwat, the world`s largest mobile athletic apparatus.
The women's Pole Vault showed absolute world class form, with the no. 1 in the world rankings in 2014, Fabiana Murer (BRA), securing the coveted Golden shingle by jumping 4.60m, while the German ranked number 2, Lisa Ryzih was in 2nd place. World Junior Record holder, Alena Lutkovskaya finished with a worthy 4.40m for 3rd place, while local star Kira Grünberg had to settle for 4.00m.
The men`s Pole Vault competition was decided by Portuguese record holder Edi Maia jumping 5.50m. Local hero, Lukas Wirth, with 5.20m achieved a new personal best and the minima for the U23 European Championship in Tallin!
An absolute highlight, in the truest sense of the word, was the Long Jump competition. As a world premiere, developed by organisers Armin Margreiter and the Fa. MediaLas, a brand new radar line laser was presented, marking the sand with the distance for the jumpers to beat. Both spectators and athletes were thrilled by the novelty with some excellent results. The men's competition was won by Czech Vice-European Champion Radek Juska, jumping a FlySwat Record of 8.15m ahead of the Swedish Championship bronze medalist Andreas Otterling with 8.05 m (also a personal best). In the women's competition, sympathetic Romanian Alina Rotaru jumped in 6.72 m in top form and won in front of the Ukrainian U23 European Vice- Champion Krystyna Hryshutyna (6.49 m). Austria's local star, the newly crowned World Youth record holder in the Heptathlon, Sarah Lagger, increased her personal best in Long Jump to an impressive 6.18 m which pushed her to rank 6 in the U18 World Ranking in this discipline!
