10th Int. Golden Roof Challenge - "home of the Golden Fly Series"
The 10th Int. Golden Roof Challenge - the first stop of the 2014 Golden Fly Series – lured thousands of sports enthusiasts in the old town of Innsbruck in front of the Golden Roof. The Athletics cult event featuring Pole Vault and Long Jump celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with a sizzling display of world-class athletics!
The Pole Vault was a three-way battle between the reigning World Indoor Champion Konstadinos Filippidis (GRE), Russian World Cup finalist Sergey Kucheryanu and the Portuguese Record Holder Edi Maia. Kucheryanu won the elite battle for the coveted Golden Roof tile with new meeting record of 5.68 m in front Filippidis and Maia and with that performance pushed his way into the top 10 of the current world rankings!
The Women’s Long Jump was a clear case for the No. 2 of last year's world rankings Sostene Moguenara Taroum (GER) – who won with a remarkable 6.65m jump ahead of Russian Championship medallist Yulia Pidluzhnaya (6.39 m) and the Vice-European Champion Olga Sudarava (BLR) with 6.31 m.
In the Men's Long Jump, Russian Paval Shalin jumped 7.99 m just missing the 8-metre barrier, winning ahead of Cubans Wilfred Martinez with 7,94 m. World Record Holder leg amputee Markus Rehm (GER), jumped an incredible 7.84, falling only 11 cm short of his own World Record!
